Professor Joseph Bower and Sonja Ellington Hout discuss the popularity of M&S and its effect globally. Looks at the Oxford Street store in London. In 1994 M&S made £6.5 billion and was listed as one of Europe's most respected companies in the Financial Times. Interviews by a number of people: Sir Richard Greenbury discussing the impact of M&S and its success. Carolyn Spingett (clothes selector for women's wear) - emphasis on good value for money and the quality of the products. Later speaks about the different sizes/colours/climates that have to be taken into account for the other stores around the world. Andrew Waring - importance of suppliers and customers and high quality products. Various customers - who expressed the continued emphasis of good value for money, quality and good fashion. Christopher Hogg - Chairman of Courtaulds Textiles - Positive relationship with M&S which has flourished over time. They provide around 40% of their business for M&S. Mike Taylor (Food Merchandising Director) - Talks about the need to improve packaging design. Structure of the business was shown from Executive Directors to Merchandisers. Then the structure of a typical buying team; Merchandiser and senior selector with a team behind them of assistants and trainees. Andrew Stone (Executive Director of Womenswear) went through a number of clothes items.
