Then brings goods out of a carrier bag including a range of men’s socks in various colours from 3/11 to 5/6 each, a range of women’s stockings, women’s slips at 17/11 and briefs at 5/11. Women’s housecoats modelled at 89/11 and a nightie at 25/11. Nightie ‘supersoft and cosy’ at 39/11. Woven and knitted slip at 19/11. Girls’ crinoline waist slips at 29/11. Film of Kenneth Horne talking about shopping at Marks and Spencer with fashion editor of ‘She’ magazine for holiday clothes for ‘She’ fashion staff. Found ‘wonderful range of clothes in Bri-lon and Bri-nylon’. The advert is mentioned in SMN April 1960 – it was produced in cooperation with British Nylon Spinners and would be shown in over 500 cinemas in May that year. Features sweater at 25/11, short sleeved women’s sheath dress at 79/11, child’s sleeveless sweater, shortie quilted housecoat worn over pyjamas, shortie nightdresses at 29/11. Full length nightie at 29s11d. Baby doll pyjamas. Kenneth Horne models Bri-nylon shirt at 37/6. Says Marks and Spencer has lots of lingerie to choose from. Women’s lace trim slips which wash and dry overnight at 21/- with briefs to match. Says Jennifer bought her complete holiday wardrobe from Marks and Spencer for less than £15. Duration: 02:12

Music with Gloria’s voiceover. Film of woman shopping for present for husband at Marks & Spencer. Gloria looks round the store, then day dreams about being at home with friends, traditional interior, handing out drinks. Dance routine, shows Gloria day dreaming about washing a jumper, and husband wearing one as he helps child down slide in studio setting. Includes Orlon sweaters in window at 40/- and 42/6. Looks at women’s blouses and remarks what lovely colours and styles they are. Buys pink v-neck jumper for self at 35/11 saying Orlon is so fashionable. Chunky Orlon sweaters at 57/6 are ‘wonderful value’ ‘warm and light as air’ which keep their shape however much you wear them. Orlon is so easy to wash – dry flat and don’t iron.
